Organizations that give attention to the employee market and understand what people are seeking from the work environment have a better chance to recruit and retain top talent. Demonstrate to health care leaders that nurses are the critical difference in America's health system.

During the nation's economic slump, many people put off getting health care because of financial troubles or a lack of insurance. That's faster than the average for all other occupations. But for now, experts say, families need to be better advocates for their loved ones while they're in the hospital or an extended-care facility.
